Our researchers have used the citizen social science approach in the UK, Middle East and Africa to develop the Citizen Prosperity Index – a new way of measuring prosperity that goes beyond mere income and economic growth to look holistically at what people think matters to them to achieve a ‘good life’.
The Index, based on extensive data collection within local communities, allows us to capture the whole spectrum of economic, infrastructural and social dimensions impacting a person’s life, their needs and aspirations, around health and wellbeing, housing quality, education and lifelong learning, community life, and choice and freedom.
The Index findings serve to develop context-specific pathways to prosperity: in Lebanon, we developed solutions to improve the quality of life for communities in Beirut in a context of conflict and multiple crises; in Tanzania, we're working to provide practical solutions in a context of widespread poverty and limited resources, from waste management, to supplying safe water and clean cooking energy.
The Citizen Prosperity Index allows every citizen to see progress being made. Every designer, business, organization and government (local and national) can track how their work adds value and drives change. Data is democracy.
